Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) are a relatively new Computational Intelligence technique inspired by principles, models and mechanisms of the biological immune system. After a short introduction into AIS, two known AIS algorithms, CLONALG and opt-aiNet –inspired by the Clonal Selection Principle and the Immune Network Theory respectively- are tested on high dimenstional optimization problems using a set of benchmark test functions and compared to a classical Genetic Algorithm from the MATLAB toolbox. Their performance is very good indicating that AIS could be very useful in real-world problem solving.
